15 Best TV Series to Watch Right Now – May 2019 Edition

It’s the first of July so I’m letting you know all the best tv series to watch right now!  I have personally watched all of these series (I have no life except for Stay at Home Mum and television) – I not everyone will have the same taste – but these are just epic so I had to share.

Oh and yes I’m obsessed with true crime… it’s a problem!  Here they go:

Jessica Jones – Season 3

  • Starring: Krysten Ritter, David Tennant, Racheal Taylor
  • Channel: Netflix
  • Genre: Action, Crime

Premise:

Following the tragic end of her brief superhero career, Jessica Jones tries to rebuild her life as a private investigator, dealing with cases involving people with remarkable abilities in New York City.

Fun Trivia:

  • In the comics, Jessica Jones went to High School with Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, and her father worked for Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man.
  • Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are married with a daughter named Danielle, after Danny Rand/Iron Fist, a character from a different Marvel/Netflix series.

“Would you put day drinking under experience or special abilities?”

Dynasty – Season 3

  • Starring: Elizabeth Gillies, Nathalie Kelley, Grant Show
  • Channel: Netflix
  • Genre: Drama

Premise:

Follows two of America’s wealthiest families as they feud for control over their fortune and their children.

Fun Trivia:

  • In an opening scene flashback in the first episode showing a young Steven playing the piano, he’s playing the theme from the original series.

“Did you pack your mother of the year trophies? I’ll shine them with my ass.”

Tales of the City

  • Starring: Laura Linney, Ellen Page, Olympia Dukakis

Tales of the City” focuses primarily on the people who live in a boardinghouse turned apartment complex owned by Anna Madrigal at 28 Barbary Lane, all of whom quickly become part of what Maupin coined a “logical family”.

Fun Trivia:

  • Laura Linney’s first involvement with the works of friend Armistead Maupin occurred 25 years earlier in the writer’s first filmed series Tales of the City (1993).

The Confession Tapes – Season 2

  • Genre: Crime, Based on True Story, Documentary

  • Genre: Comedy, Drama
  • Channel: Stan

After being mistaken for younger than she really is, a single mother decides to take the chance to reboot her career and her love life as a 26-year old.

Fun Trivia:

  • Sutton Foster (Liza Miller) admitted that she went to Hilary Duff (Kelsey Peters) for fashion inspiration during filming for the first season.

“Don’t be sorry, you should be with someone your own age who will go agro on you and will put your penis in a cage.”

Marlon – Season 2

Staring: Marlon Wayans, Essence Atkins, Bresha Webb

Channel: Netflix

Genre: Sitcom

A loving (but immature) father with a larger-than-life personality is committed to co-parenting his two kids with his very-together ex-wife but for Marlon family really always does come first – even if he’s the biggest kid of all.

Fun Trivia:

  • This is the third time that Marlon Wayans and Essence Atkins have played characters in a relationship on screen.

Another Period – Season 3

Two sisters discover disturbing family secrets after a string of mysterious deaths occur on a luxury ship traveling from Spain to Brazil in the 1940s.

Fun Trivia:

  • In early episodes as Clara sings with the ship’s orchestra her microphone is angled toward her so she is singing into the solid top. The microphone used is a dynamic microphone popular in the 1940′ s. To work correctly the microphone should be angled away from her or straight up (as it is in S1 E8) so that she is singing into the sound slots on the side.

3% – Season 3

Overview:

A thriller set in a world sharply divided between progress and devastation, where people are given the chance to make it to the “better side” but only 3% of the candidates succeed.
